The Beginning of Greatness PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 20 August 2008
Greatness is not the preserve of a few chosen saints. Greatness is really the ability to maintain one’s enthusiasm through the peaks and the valleys of life. What does it take for you to abandon your dream? Are you happy with your life? Are you where you need to be? Does life hold any meaning for you beyond a bare existence? Rub out the memories of failure
Failure is never final and never as embarrassing as you imagine it is. Failure should never stop you, imprison or terrorise you. If the past year was filled with terrible memories of failure do not despair. The future is always as bright as the promises of God. Failure is the womb of success. I would rather attempt something big and noble, risking failure than to try nothing and succeed.

Set new goals
Set new goals that will take you to a different destination. You can tell that you have set a real goal when new action flows from that goal. Goals that are not backed with action are a weak prayer that has no soul in it. The failures of the past should never be allowed to be blinds on the future.
Goals are different from New Year “resolutions.” The resolutions are just the first step and goals are something more structured. Goals must be few and focused. The process of identifying something to really pour your life into is important because focus accelerates the rate of achievements.

The goals must really fire you up. The goals you set must inspire you; they must be exciting and motivating. They must have energising power. If you are not excited about your own goals why should any other person be excited about them. If your goals do not inspire you why should they excite anybody else?

The goals must be framed into an action plan. Many people have no problems with coming up with good statements of broad intentions. Intentions are good – it is just that they are the beginning step. Intentions are to a builder what digging the foundation is. Digging the foundations is important but at some point you have to start pouring the concrete in. The frame should also look at possible action steps you can take to make that goal a reality. Giving your goal some time frame increases the chances of its realisation.

Change your circle
If you are not getting the results that you want out of life it may be due to the circle and company that you keep. If you hang around chickens, you may flap your wings periodically, but you may never fly in any meaningful or notable manner. The people in your inner circle determine who you become and what you do. Sometimes the best way to experience change is to hang around different people.

When you are around inspiring people you will become inspired. When you are around busy people you cut of idle chatter. When you are around organised people who suddenly begin to notice the clutter in your life. When you are around people who are going somewhere you begin to notice how stagnant you are. When you hang around big thinkers you start seeing new possibilities in your world. Hang around people that challenge you and inspire you. These are people that make it impossible to be comfortable with mediocrity. People that make you positively uncomfortable will always help you create comfort in your future.

To your greatness!
