Being average can sound like humility but it definitely is not. Being mediocre may sound African but it is not. Mediocrity can be an epidemic; a bitter addiction and some people may think it is a birthright. The truth is that although not all of us are born with a silver spoon in our mouths it is up to us to choose what we become. Mediocrity is a choice. We either choose it consciously or by default. If mediocrity is left unchallenged it will swallow up all our lives, dominate our thinking and possess posterity. Opportunities can sometimes be scary – they usually look big, imposing and threatening. Most of the time opportunity is not dressed for the market. Sometimes it is dressed as a challenge, a problem, a real hassle, or unfair work. When opportunities are ignored we pass up an opportunity to grow and develop. Take charge of your fears!

Perhaps the biggest limitation that humans face is fear. Fear freezes the flow of ideas, torments and disables. We just cannot afford to sacrifice the future on the altar of fear. Until we move beyond our fear we will never grow. Snakes shed when they grow too big for their skin, comparable to the way humans outgrow clothing. Read more
